The Armenian Genocide, 24 April 1915

Hitler, while commenting on his planned invasion and destruction of Poland, reportedly said something like "who remembers the extermination of the Armenians?" It's 99 years today since the Ottoman Empire turned on it's Armenian minority. There had been trouble for the Armenians within the Ottoman Empire prior to the First World War but beginning around the time of the ANZAC defeat at Gallipoli, Turkish forces across Anatolia methodically killed and expelled thousands of Armenians from Turkish territory, the final tally is about 1.5 million. Today the Armenian nation survives, but recognition of the Armenian Genocide is still a controversial topic.
